Shiprocked 2023 Day 1
The day began with us arriving at the cruise terminal at 12pm. We proceeded to have to stand in line for almost 2 hours waiting to board the ship due to them running late decorating the ship. However, our actual arrival appointment was scheduled between 1:30pm and 2:00pm so we actually boarded the ship when we should have. The first thing we did when we got on the ship was checked out our room, and then went and ate for the first time of many onboard.
The first performance of the cruise was from the band Nothing More on the deck stage.
They were okay, but we were hoping that the lead singer (Jonny Hawkins) would bring his Scorpion Tail on stage. We figured it would not happen due to the sheer size of it. Their performance was followed up by the band Nonpoint. I had never heard either of the first two bands, and we enjoyed them much more than the opener.
It was at this point we ran into one of the many issues we had with the service on the cruise. We ordered a bucket of beer (Blue Moon Belgian White), and when we went to order another bucket; we were told they had run out for the night. We then asked for Corona as a replacement and were told they were also out of that. They were out of two types of beer a couple of hours into night one. We ended up ordering a bucket of Michelob Ultra which in comparison to the Blue Moon tasted like water. After Nonpoint, we then moved into the theater for the band Bones UK; which turned out to be one of our favorites of the cruise. The highlight of their performance was a cover of the Beatles song Helter Skelter. The interesting part with this band and their performance was they started out soft and ended hard. After Bones UK we then returned back to the deck stage for Wage War’s first performance. They were also in our top for performances on the cruise. They went on stage at 9pm with an hour set.
We then returned back to the Theater for Grandson’s first performance. We felt his performance was good, but not the best of the night. To end the night with a performance that began at 11pm on the Deck Stage was Motionless in White. They were also really good, and played a lot of their hits including Werewolf which I was looking forward to, and Slaughterhouse as well as others.
The last thing we did to end the night was checked out the Singles Mingle for the one single guy in our group. It turned out pretty lame in his words. We ended the night getting some ice cream from the Lido deck, and then went to bed. The verdict for Day 1 is….
